Further extracts from what the makers say about the current Regal RD-40VS model in the "Overview" on the Saga Music current website......

"Using our many years of experience in the development and construction of traditional American acoustic instruments, we have also discovered ways to improve upon the most legendary designs from the past without pricing them out of the reach of any level player.

Only the finest materials are used to create these designs reminiscent of the past, while still meeting the demands of today's modern players. The body shape takes its cues from instruments of the past; while the real secret to the tone of these instruments lies within.

It all starts with a combination of Regal exclusives such as the Tone Chamber for added volume, the Die-cast spider for its bell like response, and a hand-spun aluminum cone. All together work to assure the maximum, most articulate tone that can be heard in any playing situation."

Main feature summary compiled from the Saga Instrument website and other online details........

* Classic body shape, slightly larger than some dobro type guitars. Vintage sunburst gloss finish. Body, neck, and headstock are all bound. 25" Scale Length.
* Spruce top and quarter sawn mahogany back and sides recreate the classic look and sounds of the 30’s. Dual screened soundholes.
* Original style square profile neck neck has a 2" nut width with a smooth, rich finish provides solid resonance and sustain. Dot-inlaid rosewood fretboard.
* Solid peghead with distinctive inlay.
* Chrome open gear tuners with butterbean buttons.
* Golden Gate’s patented spider and US-made spun aluminium cone resonate with crisp clarity. Die-cast aluminum spider bridge and hard maple bridge inserts.
* Saga’s patented "Power Reflex" chamber produces unsurpassed volume and tone with sound baffle plate and relatively open body cavity to allow for a big, full sound.
* Fan style coverplate and tailpiece are chrome plated

Condition
Excellent condition....very clean with no significant making to body or fittings, only minor normal use.
Action, strings & cases
Set-up.....Dobro Lap-Slide set-up - String height, with standard tall dobro nut @ 1st. fret is 12mm., @ 12th. fret is also 12mm.

Strings....Either Eagle Puretone Nickel Resophonic Slide Guitar or Newtone Michael Messer strings....Unusually I usually make a careful note of the stings fitted, but missed that this time, so could be Nickel wound versions of either of the types I use....gauge probably 16-56.

There is no case included with the guitar. I may have a period (more like '50s/'60s, than '30s!) pressed fibreboard case to fit, but old cases of this type, are not generally very robust or well-fitting, but a dedicated hard case with interior neck rest designed for dobro square neck may be more challenging to find.

**** YOUTUBE ****
------------------------------------------------------------

The embedded YouTube clip for this one has some great playing on a Regal RD-40VS.....if rather quiet....not using picks!

Additional links are firstly to another great demo of the Gold Tone Paul Beard Deluxe dobro, one of which I also have in my collection. Unusually the second additional link, to the other dobro model in my collection is a soundclip, rather than video....simply because there is nothing more appropriate, since this is a live recording of the Busker Tennessee Dobro being played by Robin Clark himself....and an added bonus of some further still images of the guitar! Robin must have a soft spot for the Tennessee Dobro, out of all the models Busker produced, as he kept one as his gigging guitar and the soundclip with images is the only one of his guitars that he carried forward on onto his Dulcimers channel, from the still accessible Busker Guitars website, for more background.
