AVAILABLE & READY TO GO! - guitar checked over and "serviced" by Colin Keefe himself....including bridge & saddle adjusted, fingerboard cleaned, and new set of strings fitted....can't do better than get it set-up by the original maker, after 18 years!
The highly-distinctive Keefe ‘RB’ model, is basically the same "Cat's Eyes" design as the Keefe Round-back minus the lute back. This has a Spruce top, figured American Cherry back, although without the "lute" back, still retaining a very distinct curve to the 3-piece back, so the guitar has a slimmer look than it actually is in reality, matching sides, a 3-piece Mahogany/Ebony neck and an Ebony bridge, head veneer and fingerboard, with custom mother of pearl inlays.
Colin Keefe LUTHIER
MAKER OF FINE GUITARS & MANDOLINS
...........Colin's website is in the process of revision, therefore some sections not fully operational, but still useful guide to the scope of his high-quality Guitar Making.
...a guitar being regretfully sold by the owner who commissioned it's making, purely because Arthritis problems prevent him from continuing to get full use of it.
Stock Number: VTGC1061.
Really impressive and distictive guitar, which Colin Keefe was clearly very pleased to see back in his workshop, commenting on it's unbelievably good & clean condition after 18 years, and also what a supeb sounding guitar it is....great sustain, but also with amongst other attributes, that characteristic rhythm sound so evocative of the Gypsy Jazz guitar.....a quality of sound maintained plugged in by the B-Band electrics.
The highly attractive timbers used in the construction, and outlined above are superbly finished off by Ebony and Cherry, and Ebony & Sycamore multiple bindings to body, top & back, "Cat's Eyes" soundholes, plus full binding to Fingerboard sides, shaped end, and to the headstock.....workmanship of the very highest quality!
Equipped with Chrome hardware, including quality enclosed Schaller tuning machines, and endpin jack.
Pickup/EQ: B-Band "New Frontier" + built in external access battery holder.....if you Google the name of this pickup some details on the Lakewood Guitars website come up, which may be of interest, but of course I cannot guarantee that the information applies correctly to the the pickup/EQ system in this guitar, or that the installation does not vary from these details.
Nut Width: 1.65"/42mm.
Body Length: 20.2"/51.3cm.
Body Width: 15.8"/40.2cm.
Body Depth: Front: 3.39"/8.6cm.
The guitar was finished at the end of 2001 and Colin's log says 01/02 and is no 51, and Colin advises...."The materials for the back and sides were re-converted and had originally been the casing for a piano, good sound timber!!"
I'm sure that the photos more than adequately show the great condition and quality looks. As confirmed above, has been checked over and serviced/set-up by Colin Keefe, himself before sale....any use marks are of the most minor nature.
Action......set up checked by Colin Keefe himself, still with excellent low action of approx. 1.75mm./2.5mm. at 12th. fret.
Strings.....Colin confirms that with it's the slim neck and other characteristics the guitar was built for light strings....in fact an ideal electric player's acoustic....but the more recent advent of low-tension strings, such as the Newtone Historic range means that the gauge can be upped without increasing the tension....hence a 12 gauge set of those has been fitted.
Case........Hiscox Liteflite Hard-shell case, age marking to exterior & wear & tear to interior lining, but still does the job....probably, used since guitar was new, is included.

Happily the YouTube content for Colin Keefe Guitars is devoted to his superb acoustics, and although not featuring this particular model, I have embedded links showing the quality of his instruments.
