11/10/2019 - Selling on commission for a customer.

Update - 16/12/2019 - Now Sold & collected by buyer from Northamptonshire!
____________________________________________________________

Sold to my customer as a 1930s Model 250, but all the images I see of the 250 show an F-hole body, rather than one with soundhole grills.

By means of vintaxe.com subscription I have access to a 1940 catalog of Regal instruments, showing the same model, identical except for a different style of tailpiece, as the top-of-the-line of 3 "Mandolins with Dobro Amplification" as "No.290 - Genuine Dobro licensed amplifying unit; fine nickel plated Dobro cover; beautifully finished in rich mahogany graining highly polished; rich clear tone of great carrying power; 14 inch scale; quick, easy action fingerboard."

As far as I can ascertain from the research I have done, these details are accurate, but I am happy to be corrected if you have better information or knowledge.
Description
Stock Number: VTGC1056.

Although described, in my customer's purchase receipt from a well-known and long-established independent musical instrument store, as being "Museum Grade", the Mandolin has been restored and overhauled by Colin Keefe, Luthier and highly-respected guitar builder (https://www.keefeguitars.co.uk/).

That description was correct in terms of structural & cosmetic condition, but not playability. To achieve correct playing action & set-up Colin removed the fingerboard, lined the underside with hardwood veneer to adjust & correct the fingerboard alignment angle, re-attached, re-bound & re-fretted the fingerboard.

So now you have the best of both worlds, both in terms of outstandingly good condition and playability....we are confident that you will not find a better Regal Dobro Mandolin.
Condition
Outstandingly good overall condition & Professionally Restored playability, as described above.

With minimal marking & light finish crazing, entirely appropriate to an instrument of around 80 years old, the cosmetic & structural condition is excellent....simply as good as you will find anywhere!

Original tuners are incredibly clean & bright & work fine, coverplate & tailpiece similarly in great condition.
Action, strings & cases
As described above the Mandolin has been restored overhauled & professionally set-up, so it lays excellently with ideal 12th. fret action of around 1.5mm./2mm.

Little used strings appear to be around 10-36 light gauge Phosphor Bronze, but no doubt a buyer of an instrument of this calibre will fit their own preferred choice of strings.

What was sold to my customer as, and indeed appears to be the original case, is included, together with that dreadful term "case candy" of 5 "Black Diamond" strings of some but indeterminate age.
