Original Internal Label is dated 1974, as per photo.

A beautiful example of a highly respected and sought-after model Grand Concert Japanese/Nippon Gakki-made Yamaha classical from the early 1970s period of high-quality production.
Description
Stock Number: VTGC1051.

Unfortunately the useful Yamaha Guitars Archives seems to have disappeared. Taking details from other selling descriptions can be misleading, but of the several descriptions of other examples of the Yamaha GC-3D or the GC-3, which seems to be essentially the same guitar, the ratio of those describing the Top timber as Spruce or Ezo Spruce, appears to exceed those describing Cedar or Western Red Cedar by about 4 to 1.

The only reason for making this observation is that the typically heavily tinted Yamaha finish makes reliable identification differentiation uncertain. Indian Rosewood is the consensus for the back and sides, and the consensus is that all timbers are solid.

The dimensions appear to be quite traditional, with longish 658mm./25.9" scale and full width fingerboard, 52mm./2" at the nut, on a reasonably shallow, slightly "D" profile neck. The high quality of the construction detailing should be apparent in the photos, with handsome multi-ply to the top & back, multi-ply centre back stripe & end stripe, intricate inlayed soundhole Rosette, similar inlay & bindings to the Rosewood bridge. The all solid top and highly figured Rosewood back and sides are simply beautifully grained and book-matched.
Condition
The guitar is clearly all original, but really does not look 45 years old! The condition is just remarkable, beautiful finish, with only very few minor marks, and a limited area where there may have been a minor finish repair on the treble side, upper bout - but all in all, really minor markings for a vintage guitar, and really very, very smart.

The machine heads are the quality engraved units originally fitted and working well, set on beautiful Rosewood faced headstock. Playing-wise, there is really no visible wear to the frets and the fingerboard. Before sale, in addition to re-stringing, I will be stoning & re-profiling the frets, plus purpose-making & fitting New Bone Nut & Saddle.
Action, strings & cases
The action at the 12th. fret is spot-on at 3.5mm./4mm., and the guitar plays very nicely indeed. The existing strings are old & in need of replacement. Before sale I will be fitting the set of D'Addario Pro-Arte EJ45 Normal Tension Silverplated Wound & Clear Nylon Strings, in the bag supplied by the owner.

The guitar comes in the black soft TGI gigbag supplied by the owner. Alternatively, I should be able to supply a Hiscox Liteflite or PRO11 case at modest additional cost, if required.
